Clothing

Aztec clothing was loose fitting and didn't cover much of the body. They used a range of lots of different dyes to create the bright colours and patterns. Men wore a loincloth which was a piece of cloth tied to the front, and a cloak made from triangular cloth, this can be known as either a tilmatli or a tilma. Women wore a skirt and a sleeveless top.  Slaves would wear the same but made from plain cloth. The decoration on the clothing depends on the social class, more important people would have extra embroidery, colours and patterns. For decoration on clothing, they used gold, feathers, furs, and pendants. They wore symbols of their particular affiliation on their clothing or headdress. Some also wore ear spools (a type of ear stretcher).
